The Way Home

This world is old and never changing
this road is long and straight and there is no shade this way
my feet are sore, in need of resting
i've walked so far, i've walk a thousand million miles this way
Up ahead i see a car approaching
stops to my side, a man leans out and all he says is 'hey'
then says to me 'where are you heading'
'anywhere from hear i wanna go, are you heading my way?'
He said 'i don't know, depends where you want to go'
smiled as he spoke
the glint in his eye said this man aint no joke
'For so long i have been walking
waiting for someone to help me in leaving this place'
'Mr can you help me leaving?'
'Sure i can son whatever you say'
I said 'let's go'
He said 'jump in, and we'll be on the move'
Where to i don't know?
He turned the radio up and we were on our way
Took me to lands of furthest reaching
Showed me places I would never have imagine, never have fathomed
Gave me gold and richest living
Then made me poor, peasant poor and made me slave all day
He made time slow
He made it fast, he made it stop and go
Just how, I don't know
Something that I trusted that time would show
After so long it seemed
We stopped and he said to me
"Heres your destination your destiny
The very place you have been longing to be"
Turned out we were back from where we'd came
The same old lonely road now somehow seemed serene
The very same place it seemed
But so much had changed from where I once had been
I now understood this mans teaching
We had returned but now things were not the same
Turned to him, me he was eyeing
Reached across tapped my heart said 'now you've found your way'
And now I know
What this man had come and intended to show
Theres no place I need to go
All along this time I had been home
And to this day I still don't know
This mans name or where he calls home
But the lesson that he showed
Will be with me until I grow old
And I can only hope
Many years from now when I do grow old
When driving on some dusty road
Pick someone up and show them the way home
